Day1

Day 1: Marrakech to Merzouga

Marrakech - High Atlas Mountains - Ait Benhaddou - Merzouga

We begin early, picking you up directly from your Marrakech accommodation to start the scenic drive south. Our first major highlight is crossing the High Atlas Mountains via the famous Tizi N’Tichka pass. We will make several stops so you can photograph the breathtaking panoramic views.

Next, we visit the iconic Ait Benhaddou Kasbah. This ancient, fortified village is a renowned UNESCO site and the backdrop for numerous Hollywood blockbusters. After exploring its historic alleyways, we will stop for a local lunch.

We then continue our drive, reaching the edge of the Sahara Desert by evening. (Note: This is a long driving day of approximately 9 hours, but the journey takes you straight to Merzouga so you can enjoy a full, relaxing day in the dunes tomorrow.) Upon arrival, check into your comfortable hotel or riad for a warm dinner and a well-deserved rest.

Wake up early to catch a spectacular desert sunrise straight from your riad. After a hearty breakfast, we embark on a thrilling 4×4 off-road adventure around the massive Erg Chebbi dunes, which is just one of the many incredible things to do in Merzouga.

We will visit local Nomad families living in traditional woven tents, offering a rare glimpse into their daily lives over a shared glass of mint tea. Our exploration continues to Khamlia village, famous for its mesmerizing Gnawa music. Enjoy the rhythmic cultural performance before stopping for a local lunch nearby.

In the late afternoon, the real magic begins. You will meet your camel caravan for a peaceful trek into the heart of the dunes.
